The 12 apostles offer stunning adventures along the coastline of Victoria, Australia. There are many ways to take in the 12 apostles, you can walk barefoot along the softy sandy beaches or fly high above in a helicopter. I hope this HDR photo I took of the iconic rock formations does it justice!

With all this talk about the 5 new apostles found underneath the water at 12 Apostles, Victoria Australia, I thought it fitting to share an image I took there a few weeks ago. This was taken from out on top of headland using my tripod so that I could get a steady shot. It was a gorgeous day of about 28 degrees C and there were quite a few tourists. You can see a few people walking along the beach and that’s what’s so special about these ones. There is a long staircase down to the beach in the cliffs and the decent itself is exciting. But then being down on the beach dwarfed by these giant columns is very inspiring. After this I actually went down on the the beach and shot some long exposures.

The info about the columns is below-

“The five columns, around six kilometres offshore from the Apostles, have an average height of almost five metres compared with the visible stacks which average 45m.Stacks only occur where rock is soft enough to erode from a cliff, but at the same time hard enough to support a pillar. Like the so-called 12 Apostles – which actually now number eight – the newly discovered underwater stacks were once part of a larger limestone sea cliff dating back 60,000 years.”
