Best Lenses For Sony A7 Series & A6000 Mirrorless Cameras

BEST Sony A7 Series Lenses

Sony Mirrorless Camera Series A7, A7 II and A7 III

These are the best lenses for the Sony A7 series of cameras and will work on all of the above cameras. Whether you are on a budget or you want the best lens available these suggestions will have you covered!

*Note If you have a cropped APS-C sensor Sony camera like the a5100 or a6300 please scroll down for the APS-C Lens suggestions, thanks.

Landscapes, Ultra Wide Angle Lens:

The best focal length for shooting Landscape photographs are your ultra-wide angle lenses. These will capture the entire scene around you all in one frame and the Sony Zeiss Lenses offer stunning quality. Samyang also offers a very good Full Frame 14mm for those on a budget.

Best Option Sony FE 16-35mm F/4 (I own this lense and I love it!):

If you own a Sony A7 series camera then this is the best landscape lens to buy. It’s a native Sony FE lens, which means you can use Autofocus and all the perks of pairing a Sony FE lens with the A7 series of cameras. This is my favourite Sony lens hands down! and with the focal length you can go ultra wide at 16mm and bring back into good old fashioned wide angle at 35mm 😉

Mid Range Sony 10-18mm F/4

The 10-18mm is a lens designed for the cropped sensor cameras, e.g. the a5100, but if you use it on the Sony A7 series cameras it’s the equivalent of 15-27mm! So this is a more affordable option and is a great lens choice! Plus if you are like my household and also own the Sony a5100 as well you can use this lens on it 😉

On a Budget Samyang 14mm F/2.8:

The samyang 14mm now comes in Sony E mount! So you can have an ultra wide angle lens at an extremely affordable price. Definitely worth considering if you are on a budget!

Walk Around Lenses!

These lenses are great for when you are travelling, exploring a city or landscape and want as much zoom range coverage as possible. They come in handy for all sorts of photography from portraits to architecture. You can pretty much shoot everything with them!

Best Sony Walkaround Lense Option Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3

As you can see from the extremely wide range of focal lengths, 24-240mm, this lens has you covered for every situation! This is the lens to take when you are travelling or pretty much doing anything. It’s perfect for the Sony A7 camera series! I am sure it is on every Sony mirrorless camera owners and wishlist.

Sony FE 24-70mm Sony FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens (I also own this lense! love it)

This Zeiss zoom is the perfect focal range for portraits and travel photography and the quality of this zeiss lens is amazing! For a walk around lens the F/4 is perfectly fine, especially with the incredible sony sensors and I think the f/2.8 is overkill for a walkaround. The Sony lens feels perfectly balanced and weighted, which is important when holding a camera in your hand. It’s a very tough choice between the 24-240mm and the 24-70 F/4 Zeiss, but it depends on your needs and how long you want to be. This one is a tiny bit sharper (but not noticeable under normal PC viewing conditions) than the 24-240, but the 24-240 offers so much more zoom range! If you need the extra zoom, go for the Sony 24-240mm

On a Budget Sony 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 FE

The Sony kit lens for the sony A7 series, the 28-70mm, can produce some stunning results. I’ve created many great images with this lens, so if you are on a budget and this lens doesn’t come in a kit you should seriously considering getting this lens. You wont regret it, especially at this price it’s a steal.

Sony APS-C Series Lenses, A6000

Cameras Sony a5000, a5100, a6000, a6300 and a6500.

If you are on a budget, a beginner, needing a solid back-up camera or just getting into photography then the Sony cropped sensor cameras are fantastic and the lenses are very well priced. If you are starting out in photography and want to leave room to grow into the professional ranks, this is a great place to start! In the camera section of this website I recommend the best ones, like the a5100 and the a6300. See the full camera guide here

Landscape Ultra Wide Angle:

APS-C sized sensors pair up brilliantly with these lenses. The ranges on these lenses are the perfect focal lengths for landscapes, seascapes and work great for architecture. These are the widest angles you can get before the distortion becomes too much and you get what are called fisheyes, which are more artistic styled lenses.

Best Option Sony 10-18mm F/4

The 10-18mm is a lens designed for the cropped sensors, e.g. the a5100. The other great thing is that since this is a Sony lens it’s completely compatible with the Sony Camera systems. So all the wonderful mirrorless features will work with the lens, like focus peaking in your viewfinder or anti-aliasing. Simply put, this is a great lens choice for a Landscape camera! It’s extremely wide and creates stunning quality, well worth the price!

Very Affordable Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6

We use this lens on our Sony a5100, its small and compact and creates wonderful quality images. My wife loves this lens because of how thin it is and allows her to have a powerful camera and lens in her purse at all times! The extra zoom range to 50mm also offers a wide range of focal length for many occasions. very affordable lens!!!

Walk-around APS-C lenses:

As with the Full Frame lenses, here in your APS-C sensor sized walk-around’s you want as much focal range as possible. These lenses are very affordable and here’s a range of focal lengths are prices for you.

Best APS walk-around option Sony 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3

The 18-200mm offers the best quality walk-around zoom range for the Sony aps series cameras, like the Sony a6000. From sweeping landscapes through portraits to sports and wildlife, this lens will cover it all. Another great feature of this lens is that it has image stabilization built into the lens, which is perfect for handheld shots and your walk around lens!

Another great option  Sony Vario-Tessar T E 16-70mm f/4

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the 16-70mm, offering exceptional image quality. Pairs up perfectly with your your Sony aps camera and has a nice wide range so you can shoot landscapes or portraits!

Affordable option Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3

The 55-210 is a long lens but offers some great zoom range. This lens can also be used later on if you upgrade to the full frame Sony A7 series cameras, so its a good investment.

Hey Luke!
I will be traveling to Colorado this month with my a6000. I’ll be in Denver and Crestone for a few days each and would like to take some great landscape and cityscapes. Currently, I own the 50mm 1.8 and the 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6. Both of these lenses are great, but I was hoping to rent something different for my trip. I was eyeballing the 70-200mm f/4, but I’m uncertain of how it will preform with my a6000. Any suggestions?
