PHOTO OF THE DAY- Peak Hour Traffic, Amsterdam
I amusingly called this image “Peak Hour Traffic” because in the city of Amsterdam nearly everyone gets around on bicycles, so after work the roads are filled with bikes. What I found amazing was when riders would come to these intersections from all 4 directions a sought of chaotic symphony would proceed managing to avoid each other by inches. Riders carry everything from babies and toddlers, their pets to overloaded shopping bags in their laps. Out the front of this antique shop you can see a guy with a baby in his lap on the bike and he was not going a gentle pace either. There only seems to be trouble when touritsts are involved as they aren’t used to the ordered chaos. I usually stood in wonderment as people of all ages guided their bicycles at rocket speeds through always having near misses with other riders. Inside this antique shop they sold lots of pipes made out of bone and they had 100’s of them… all used and all unique.
