PHOTO OF THE DAY- Vivid Sydney Skyline

Sydney is epic during Vivid Sydney Light festival! The bridge is even lit up along with a selection of skyscraper buildings in the city CBD, boats are covered in lights, there are light art installations all over the city, interactive exhibits, talks, concerts… the list goes on and it gets bigger and better every year. There are so many things to do during vivid in Sydney and there are some new precincts this year like the Kings Cross Coke Sign has been lit up in neon pink, purple and blue lights. Chatswood is another precinct which was added to recently. This year they have create a long walk through the Sydney Botanical gardens which I did with my wife the other night. Walking through there feels a lot like walking through an Alice in Wonderland type scene.

Photography is infectious this year with photographers all coming out to shoot the lights. It’s a lot of fun to do long exposures with these light installations, up close or from afar like I did in this image. I have noticed the increase in photographers each year, which was especially noticeable when I walked across the harbour bridge. Many photographers are going up there to take shots pointing down on to the Sydney Opera house, the harbour area where all the boats are and places like Circular Quay.

Canon is also putting on photo walks and Talks so you guys should checkout those if you are looking to get some photo education.

Software Used:

This photo is created from 3 exposures to get more details in the shadows and highlights, otherwise it will blown out in these areas. I used a manual HDR editing technique which you can learn from Jimmy Mcintyre.

I used both Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom in this photo edit and the best way to get these 2 programs is to get the Adobe Photography Plan, you can check out the Photography plan here.

I also used On1 Photo Effects to stylise the image, adding glow, contrast, tone, colour and sharpening.
